The eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) is a coniferous tree native to the eastern United States and Canada with its southernmost reach in north Georgia and Alabama. Like many other species indigenous to North America, the hemlock is critically threatened by a non-native insect, the hemlock woolly adelgid (Adelges tsugae; HWA).

Hemlock and its two related books, Hemlock: Voices from the South and Hemlock: Companion Book preserve a trace, or a momentary impression, of a tree species and the insect that threatens its existence in the U.S. Southeast.

Hemlock: Voices from the South is a letterpress-printed photo book that contains an introduction about the eastern hemlock and the insect attacking it, the hemlock woolly adelgid, along with quotes from forest activists and biologists in Alabama, Georgia, and Virginia.

Hemlock: Companion Book is a version of the small books from Hemlock case-bound with a handmade hemlock paper cover.

Study for a Decomposing Hemlock imitates the unique decomposition of the eastern hemlock tree, using handmade paper dyed with hemlock to reflect on the threatened and near-threatened status of this species in the Eastern U.S.

Cemetery is an improvised poem about life and death containing cyanotypes and pressure prints, inspired by a cemetery near In Cahoots Residency in Petaluma, CA.

Mycorrhizae explores connectivity and loss from a philosophical and ecological perspective through an examination of underground networks of mycorrhizal fungi and roots.

Vines, A Loooming Is, and We Sent It to the Moon is a set of three books that present unique perspectives on the present and future of electronic and digital waste.

Mycology is an unbound book of intaglio and linoleum relief prints based on microscopic imagery of roots and mycelium. The digitally-printed text engages with the idea of fungi and women as dirty, dark, and rejected, inspired by the poem “Mushrooms” by Sylvia Plath.

Tribute explores the history of amate papermaking in Mexico. The text is inspired by the 1542 Aztec Codex Mendoza and my experience making amate in San Pablito, Mexico.

House of Bones uses woodcut images to illustrate an original poem about the natural cycles of life and death, inspired by a verse from the Buddhist Dhammapada.
